SHAD VALLEY

Application time is fast approaching for exceptional Grade 10, 11 and 12 students to apply for the exciting Shad Valley summer program. Printed materials should be arriving at your school in the next week so that you can spread the word about Shad Valley to your high-potential students. We also have a great video about the program that can be viewed at www.shad.ca/studentvideo.

Shad Valley provides students with an enriched academic experience and the opportunity to be immersed in university life before they finish high school. Annually, 500 of the nation's brightest students are admitted to our month-long residential program based at 10 universities across the country. The program focuses on science, technology, engineering and entrepreneurship.

Importantly, Shad Valley offers a significant financial assistance package based on financial need or merit. Financial aid is provided to successful candidates who require help with the program's fee. Shad Valley guarantees that no candidate accepted to the program has been turned away due to financial hardship, and it costs nothing to apply.

Here is what one of our 2011 participants said about this summer's program, "The month I spent at Shad Valley was the most challenging, creatively inspiring and spectacular month of my life. I met amazing people and learned a lot of new things. I have been encouraged to reach my true potential."

The selection process takes into account exceptional academic standing, as well as volunteerism, community involvement and extracurricular activities, including:
• high academic achievement
• exceptional drive, initiative, creativity and an entrepreneurial mind
• excellence and leadership in diverse pursuits, including athletics, the arts and work
• strong volunteer impact and outstanding interpersonal skills

The fun, team-based environment at Shad Valley enables participants to grow in ways they never anticipated. Through lectures, workshops and team-building activities run by university faculty and industry leaders, students are exposed to advanced academic topics and learn new leadership skills. This exposure, combined with Shad Valley's outstanding reputation, gives participants a strong advantage when applying to university and when competing for awards and scholarships.

Applications are due by December 7, 2011 or January 18, 2012, and early applications are encouraged. They are available at www.shad.ca/apply. If you would like a Shad Valley representative to visit your school, we offer in-person and virtual visits, depending on your location. Fill out the form here to have a school visit.
